Owning a pool can be fun until you realize how often you have to clean it and clear away and leaves and other debris before going for a swim. Fortunately, you can minimize the amount of time spent cleaning your pool by using a pool cover.

3 Common Misconceptions about Pool Covers

Below, we’ll go over three common misconceptions about pool covers.

  1. Pool covers are only good for keeping out dirt and debris. While keeping your pool clear of dirt and debris is one of the main benefits of pool covers, this isn’t their only function. Depending on your specific pool cover, these covers can also help to prevent water evaporation on hot, sunny days or protect your pool from damage or algae growth while not in use through the winter months. They can also help to maintain the temperature of your pool water. There are even covers that are strong enough to prevent pets or loved ones from falling into the pool while the cover is on.
  1. There are only manual pool covers. This is also not true. While manual pool covers do exist, and you have to work to remove and replace the cover each time, there are also a variety of automatic pool covers. Though they’re more of an investment, these covers are mechanically and more easily removed and replaced, so you have minimal work to do.
  1. Pool covers don’t require any maintenance. Your pool cover is designed to catch debris and other filth to prevent it from falling into the pool. This debris and filth will need to be cleaned and cleared away from the cover to keep it lasting as long as possible. You will also want to keep the motor components clean if you have an automatic cover.
