It’s easy to get carried away with the fun of pool season and fall behind on the work that goes into it, but it’s important to remember to keep up with pool maintenance so your pool fun can go uninterrupted. This is why it is best to have the pool supplies you will need for your pool on hand at all times. At Carolina Pool Builders, Inc., we have everything you will need to keep a well-maintained pool all season. Here is a list of the pool supplies you should keep handy.

Important Pool Supplies to Keep on Hand for Continual Pool Maintenance

  • Water Test Strips. You want to test your pool water about once a week to make sure the chemical levels are right where they should be. By testing your water and knowing when it’s time to add more chemicals, this will help you prevent algae and bacteria growth. Testing your water regularly is the most important step in maintaining your pool.
  • Basic Pool Chemicals. There are many chemicals that are used to get your pool to the correct levels, but only a few are necessary to have on hand. Chlorine tablets, pool shock, and pool pH Up and/or pH Down are chemicals that will be needed throughout the season to help keep levels balanced.
  • Pool Shock. You know that smell that hits you when you walk into the room of an indoor hotel pool? You don’t want your pool to smell like that. In fact, if your pool is balanced, it shouldn’t smell like anything. Over time, your pool will develop a buildup of skin cells, oils, and other debris, which will result in your pool starting to smell. This means it’s time to shock, or sanitize, your water. It’s best to do this once a week with calcium hypochlorite. Along with sanitizing your water, this can also help minimize algae buildup.
  • Algae Brush, Pool Vacuum and Telescoping Pole. These three items are great to have on hand for an easier pool cleanup. The algae brush will help loosen the algae from the walls of your pool when the chemicals aren’t cutting it anymore. It is best to use a stainless steel brush for concrete pools and a nylon bristle brush for pools with vinyl liners, so as to not damage the liner while cleaning it. A pool vacuum will then clear the algae from the water, making for an even easier cleanup. The telescoping pole can be attached to the vacuum to help reach into difficult spots. Between these three pool supplies, pool maintenance will be that much easier.

These pool supplies will help you achieve a successful pool season by making sure you have what you need to keep your pool ready to go at all times.
